Book Review: An American Hedge Fund
Well, I was able to get my hands on a copy of ‘An American Hedge Fund’ by Timothy Sykes. The book is his personal account of how he turned $12k in bar mitzvah money into $1.65 million dollars. It’s crazy to think that when Tim was doing his trading back in 1999 as a high school senior, I was a high school freshman just starting to learn about investing and personal finance. The book is about 275 pages long and is a pretty easy read and definitely keeps you wanting more. I made the poor choice to start reading around 11 pm and I was up until 5 am reading it. The book is very detailed and really gives a ‘you’re right there’ feeling. It’s rare that you find a book about finance that can really capture you emotionally and make you feel what the author seemed to be feeling at the time. From his dorm days in college to living in a New York apartment with his 745i BMW, everything is there. Tim really opens up and tells you his story, his successes and failures. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants to get an inside look at a great traders life and the trials and tribulations of the stock market.
‘An American Hedge Fund’ provides a great account of the risks and rewards of trading in the stock market. It is an inspiring story with straight up, no chaser honesty - it’s rare to find this anywhere else in the financial industry today.
